Quarter 4 Return for Face to Face

March 12, 2021

Aloha Waimalu Elementary Families:

As mentioned earlier, we will slowly welcome back all of our students for face to face instruction Monday through Thursday. Our latest guidance from the Hawaii Department of Health states that while six feet of social distancing is recommended, it is no longer required as long as everyone is properly masked and washes hands frequently. I have attached a letter from Dr. Sara Kemble, acting state epidemiologist with more information. More information will be forthcoming.

We will continue with our blended rotation for the first two weeks of the fourth quarter (March 22 - April 2). In other words, there will be no change to our schedule during this time. Starting Monday, April 5, we will slowly start to return students:

  • April 5: ALL 5th and 6th graders(except distance learning only students) will return to school for face to face instruction Monday through Thursday. All other students will continue with blended learning. All students will be on distance learning on Fridays.
  • April 12: ALL 1st and 2nd graders(except distance learning only students) will return to school for face to face instruction Monday through Thursday. All students in grades 3 and 4 will continue with blended learning. All students will be on distance learning on Fridays.

  • April 19: All 3rd and 4th graders(except distance learning only students) will return to school for face to face instruction Monday through Thursday. All students will be on distance learning on Fridays.

In addition to the above:

  • We will continue with our staggered drop off and pick up times for the rest of the school year.

  • Grab and Go lunch will continue to be offered for the rest of the year, however as of April 5, pick up time

will be from 11:15-11:45 a.m. Meals for all students will continue to be free for the remainder of the

    school year.

  • If you need after school care, please contact our partners at Kamaaina Kids for more information. We will not be offering before school care.

Also attached is a calendar that summarizes the above dates and times.

The DOE will continue to monitor the number of positive cases and will provide guidance to all schools. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and cooperation throughout this school year. You and your children are truly the heroes this school year. You have truly persevered through distance learning, blended learning, and everything else in between. We are looking forward to welcoming back all of our students, and hope that this will restore some normalcy to your lives.

Thank you,
Glen Iwamoto, Principal
