Title I

Waimalu is a school that receives Title I funding.  The purpose of Title I is to provide financial assistance to schools with at least 48% of the enrollment receiving free or reduced-priced meals.

Waimalu typically receives about $115,000 each year to support student learning.  A portion of these funds is used to purchase supplemental curricular material for our reading and math programs.  We also use these funds to hire tutors who support our inclusion efforts.  What this means is that we try to allow all students, to the greatest extent possible, to learn alongside their typical peers both in and out of the classroom.  The additional personnel allows for the instruction to be tailored to students' specific needs.  This has proven to be a successful model in facilitating learning for our struggling learners.  Inclusion helps our students develop understanding, tolerance, and acceptance of diversity.
